Our admissions process is structured around a series of steps and events designed to help answer parent questions and concerns. Our decision to admit a student is based upon our assessment of the child’s curiosity, risk taking skills, and wonderment. Other considerations that may enter into the admissions decision are the availability of space in the program and the balance of dynamics in the classrooms.
Parents and applicants are encouraged to attend scheduled Open Houses reserved specially for them via email. A visit will give parents the opportunity to observe classrooms and hear about our Academy paradigm. These sessions help parents become acquainted with our philosophy and approach, so that they can make an informed decision about our school. The orientations also include a group art lesson for the applicants directed by Artist Jennifer. The Open House provides an occasion for us to see how your child functions in small and large groups, social situations, and listening activities.
In the weeks that follow the Open House, parents may schedule a visit for their child to spend time at the Academy of Academic Excellence in an academic setting with one of our teaching professionals. This is a chance for children to experience life in the classroom and for our admissions staff and faculty to begin to understand your child as an individual and a learner. Learning styles are noted, and some informal testing may be administered. The results of these tests, the child’s talents and refinement areas, and any other concerns the parents might have will be discussed with the admissions staff after this visit.
The next step is submitting the application and related forms and fees. In some cases, academic records and teacher recommendations are requested by our Admissions Office for students applying for first through fifth grade. Every applicant who completes the process is considered for admissions by the Admissions Team. The applicant’s visit, academic record, and teacher recommendations are considered in the decision to accept a student for admission. Upon acceptance, the parents must sign the contract and pay the tuition deposit.
Academy of Academic Excellence has a rolling admission – when a space becomes available, an applicant in the waiting pool will be considered for that opening. Applicants are accepted throughout the school year. Academy of Academic Excellence gives admissions preference to siblings of current and former Academy students. The Academy admits students of any race, color, national, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national, or ethnic origin, or any other protected class in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs.
